Hi gang.

The Late Listing:

FINAL CRISIS trade paperback.

This came out the same week as LSH 2, and should have been included in my
last report. Obviously, this reprints the Grant Morrison snore-fest (which
I still have not been able to get all the way through). Starman Thom Kallor
appeared very briefly in each of the last four issues. Otherwise, why
bother?

This week's new stuff:

ADVENTURE COMICS 516

This time it is the 'Adult' current version of the Legion that brings
Superboy into the future rather than the 'Adventure' Legion. The reason is
what amounts to the reading of R.J. Brande's Last Will and Testament. It is
a holograph of the old man, and he tells his version of the founding of the
Legion and his first meeting with Brainiac 5. But what is with the garbled
syntax Levitz gave Brande? Reading it, I was hearing him speak with a thick
Russian accent. Before, I always thought of him speaking with something
resembling more of an Irish Brogue.

THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD (III) 35.

Considering the team up, I guess it is no surprise this book came out
several weeks late. The Legion of Substitute Heroes team up with the
Inferior Five! Independently of, and simultaneous with, last issue's team
up of the Legion and the Doom Patrol, the Subs try to save Earth from the
Black Hole. Hilarity ensues, when they meet the Doom Patrol's Chief Caulder
before the Legion does, and then ends up recruiting the I-Five. Dumb Bunny
loses her tail, which is why the Legion finds pink fluff in the Time
Bubble's engine room. Poor Night Girl, it must have been frustrating being
the only adult in the Bubble. After watching the Legion and Doom Patrol
destroy the Black Hole, the Subs bring the Inferior Five back to the past,
but miss the mark. They get dropped off in 2010, instead of 1972,
'...almost thirty years in the future!" Uhmmm, try almost FORTY. It sounds
like someone wants to write an Inferior Five mini series or something.

SUPER FRIENDS (II) 29

The Super Friends go to a Comic Convention (uhh, San Diego?). So do
Mxyzptlk, Bat-Mite, Quisp, Mopee, and Shaggy the Leprechaun. So some folks
get powers, including one guy dressed up as Bouncing Boy.

Until next time,

It seemed to me that in the 1980's, it was usually Polar Boy who played this
role (but then Night Girl didn't appear with them much).

You are correct sir. When Giffen first turned the Subs into his
'Bwah-Hah-Hah' brand of total ineptitude, Night Girl was increasingly being
seen on Cosmic Boy's arm, so she was left out of the Subs Special, and she
was never seen with them again.
