An anthology and a LSH book? 3 stories each issue one from each of
the Legions perhaps?

Not sure that that will keep many people happy, but who knows...
Probably confuse new readers...

Not sure if the generic title will help sales or not, but it's a nice
idea.

New #1, though. The comic ended, let's be honest about it.

I'm thinking maybe the split will be a SUPERBOY AND THE LSH set back in
the day, with the Johns Adult Legion version of those characters as the
other. Same continuity, different eras. Fill in the holes of what we
"know" about Kal's Legion while moving it forward.

I'm really hoping it'll be in DC's $3.99 format, with the eight extra
pages.

I think it's just another effort to keep the old titles trademarked, with
an interesting historical tie.

FLASH/FLASH COMICS has ended four times, and they've restarted where it
left off twice. There's no rhyme or reason to the numbering schemes.

As long as DC doesn't pull a Marvel and start renumbering with issue
97/600, then revert back three issues later for number 100 of the new
series, though, I really don't care all that much.

Maybe. I still think that they're going for multiple Legions... guess
it depends who survives L3W.

An anthology book would be pretty pointless at 22.

I can see that for 1 shots (like the JSA Return stuff) but an ongoing
series?

True, but that was either a long time ago (when that was what they
did) or a brief haitus recently.

Yeah, honestly, that's just lame. "Really #600 if we didn't keep
publishing new number ones to increase sales." Pah.

Plus, the system they use... almost pulling the new number out of the
air.

That doesn't stop the idiots at DC and Marvel from continuing to try
anthologies, like the various Vertigo minis (Heartthrobs, Gangland,
Fringe -- not the TV show, btw, etc.) or Marvel Comics Presents. Every
single damn time they try these dumbass anthologies, they seem to be
incapable of recognizing that 7-8-9 page stories do not sell on their
own. Use 'em as back-ups in appropriately-themed existing comics (a
horror story as a backup in Hellblazer, for instance) or do an
anthology that consists of 8 or 9 stories of 20-or-so pages each. Do
'em in black-and-white and on cheap paper for the anthologies and then
do 'em on great paper in full color for the TPBs.

Oh, wait. That would make waaaay too much sense.

DC and Marvel may be having a hard time but I think Dark Horse still
does the anthology pretty well...I particularly like the series of
themed hardcover anthologies they did over the last few years (Dark
Horse Book of Witchcraft, Monsters, Hauntings, etc.)...they actually
had some A-list talent work on those...the reason the Marvel and DC
versions to work out anymore is because they don't bother to get any
decent talent to work on them...maybe they have higher profile
creators kick it off but then they hand it off to unknowns or
has-beens to drive it into the ground.

Didn't Showcase '9X often have big names for the main story... usually
as ads for an upcoming project? PAD's pre-Supergirl Supergirl story.

7-8-9 page stories can work on their own... but in weekly anthologies,
not month.

IMO, not even in weekly anthologies -- that's why Action Comics Weakly
failed so quickly. Anthologies with 8 page installments are simply
not long enough. Sole exceptions: as back-up strips in comics with
22-page-or-longer lead stories or large humor-and/or-non-fiction works
such as the "Big Book of . . ." series, which is a) big and 2) not a
periodical.

Anthology floppies are simply unsellable.
