I just did my first quick-read of Legion of Three Worlds #3. Wow,
this story just gets better. More teasers for when in the various
timelines that the first Lo3W story happened. And some big reveal on
which world one of the three Legions is from (okay, not a big surprise
if you paid attention during the previous Crisis, but still there was
a big surprise during that reveal). I wish issues 4 and 5 would come
out faster.

Michael Grabois over on Legion Omnicom points out that the post-boot
Legion doesn't actually make a lick of sense, as there was no point
where that combination of Legionaires fits. Hell, the pre-Crisis one
doesn't, for that matter. Originally, Johns said that the cut-off was
the end of Magic Wars, but that goal line has now apparently been
pushed back to Adv #342, as the story where Star Boy killed went down
differently (according to JSA).

Not to say those gripes make it a bad story. I am enjoying it.
Though I hoping we would get through it without deaths. Having 3 of
most Legionnaires makes it too easy to treat any one as cannon fodder.

Actually, not so. We saw that the post-boot Legion ended up on
Earth-247 in Infinite Crisis, but not that they actually came from
there. They were lost in the void and tracked by Shikari TO 247, but
that's not the same thing.

And since there was no Earth-247 post-Infinite Crisis, we don't know
which of the 51 they actually come from (though I think that
Earth-0/New Earth and Earth-51 are both off the table).

Again no big deal. But the "explanation" doesn't really make as much
sense as Johns seems to think it does.

...Yeah, but you have to admit that the last page reveal made up for
the conbefuddlement the first "unseen" LO3W has caused, along with the
3Boot Brainy's big mouth simply justifying more and more the desire to
see his Legion get totally unretconned into neverhavingexisted land.

...On the other hand, the revelation about the "Most Important Day"
when it "all begins" balanced the conbefuddlement scales a bit. Are we
once again going to be told that Clark really was "responsible" for
Lex being able to do Michael Stipe impressions? And will we see Prime
stopped once and for all by letting Lex get his revenge? And will we
get to see a six-way wifeswapping party between the Ultra Boys and the
Phantom Girls? All this and more in the next issue, but first,
everyone go blow a buck on "Adventure #0". There's a big surprise in
the "Omens and Omeletts" section or two that makes it worth the buy
and show the industry that comics don't have to cost $4, and we know
the higher prices are naught but a scam.

It's such an iconic thing. Even SUPERFRIENDS used it on TV. And it does
beat the hell outta "billionaire industrialist who used to bang Lois
until Clark showed up".

Only a four-way, unless threeboot Jo brings some random chick along. WKRP
totally screwed up the classic relationships.

Weeeeeeeell... if dollar comics (whoops, this is DC, and it's ADVENTURE;
let's try "Dollar Comics") mean one half-century-old reprint along with a
new six-page strip.... I'll take the $3.99 stuff, thanks. Especially DC's
version, loaded with extra story pages and all.

My local shop tends to pass out these cheapies as freebies.

I only have the lead story reprinted a half a dozen or so times here
and there. The Omens and Origins story was good and worth every
quarter and the cover was pretty good as well.

I believe it's Waid/Kitson Reboot Project or something like that.

Adventure Comics....

Or the Cosmic Boy plot. Or the wedding.

But, then, that would require enough of those characters to get out of
Lo3W alive for anyone to care.

I have an unsettling feeling that we may be looking at the "hat trick"
that Giffen was planning.

Those fight scenes are already pretty unbelievable - Legionnaires
should be dropping left and right. Not that I want to see that - I'm
well over comics deaths for drama.

Right. That was after he said it was the Magic Wars (I guess because
he wanted Sensor Girl). Which was then pulled back to COIE, as you
point out, and now, unofficially, even further.

I guess the point is, fundamentally, that Johns' Legion isn't the
pre-Crisis one at all, it just looks a lot like it.

Which throws us back into the annoying post-Crisis guessing game of
which stories happened, which ones didn't or they all happened, "just
not the way you remember it," whatever the hell that means. And that
gets kind of irritating after a while.

We'll see what happens.

...He's bounced back and forth between the two, apparently trying to
judge fan reaction as to which unboot would get the better response.
Personally, I'd go for the cutoff being just after the Magic Wars,
although as a guilty pleasure I'd have Pol's sacrifice being the cause
of the unboot as a sort of reward for his sacrifice; everything that's
occurred since were simply visions of what could have happened if the
Legion had done some really stupid things - especially what occurred
during the Five Year Crap - and now they're given a second chance to
make sure things go the right way.

With that in mind, the first thing to do is to use the Miracle Machine
to exterminate the Dominion and make the SW6 batch disappear...:-)

...Somehow I suspect that the real reason for LO3W finish after FC is
that it will provide some answers as to what FC was all about, as well
as tying up all the loose ends from IfC. That, and eradicating the
3Boot punks once and for all :-P

ITA. Even more, I'm starting to feel like the actual events of Final
Crisis take place in Lo3W.

(Okay, and FC: Revelations and, arguably due to the themes,
Rann/Thanagar Holy War and Reign In Hell.)
