Hi gang!

Well, the job moved and I'm back near Big City and a lot better comic shop
selection, both in number and quality, so maybe I can now get these reports
in a more timely manner. Two new books in the past two weeks came out,
neither one a surprise. The surprise was in the contents of one of them.

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA (IV) 42

Since Mon-el is now on the roster, it is expected that he will appear. And
appear he does, mostly in the crowd scene, as everyone talks about New
Genesis technology resurfacing. I didn't miss the demise of the New Gods
and their 'Kirby tech'. Too bad the deus ex machina machinery is returning
instead of the few interesting characters destroyed.

SUPERMAN 697

Last issue, the Science Police's Control was revealed to be Chameleon Boy.
Apparently that is enough to essentially scrub the Espionage Mission,
whatever it is. All revealed Espionage Squad members (Cham, Sensor Girl,
Tellus, Matter-Eater Lad and Starman Thom Kallor) drop any disguises and fly
off, aided and abetted by a previously unrevealed member of the Squad, and
longtime missing Leigonnaire Quislet. Mon then makes out with his SP
partner Billi Harper in a 'steamy' shower scene. After that he meets up
with Superboy Connor, who invites him to meet some friends (the Espionage
Squad), where it is revealed there is yet one more Legionnaire in the 21st
Century. Interestingly, that Legionnaire's costume is the only one that is
unmodified from what he was wearing circa V2 #300 or V3 time period. That
meeting will have to wait until Adventure 8/511.

Oh yeah, the new Previews calls for LSH V6 #1, as well as a LSH backup in
Adventure.

Until that meeting happens,

...You're one of the very few, considering how poorly received "Death
of the New Gods" was.

ADVENTURE COMICS (III) 8 (511).

Finally, the Legion's on the cover where they belong! TWO Legion chapters
this issue, both prologues to the upcoming Last Stand of New Krypton
mini-series.

First in the 31st Century, Brainiac 5 ruminates on his name as the Legion
battles the first of several time rifts that threaten to destroy the
universe. He realizes they were created by his ignoble ancestor in the
upcoming aforementioned mini-series.

Then in the 21st Century, we finally find out where the last member of the
Espionage Squad--Element Lad--has been hiding. He's been a Chemistry
teacher at Smallville High School. This chapter directly follows the events
in Superman 697, mentioned last time. It turns out that each of the
Espionage Squad members had been sent to the past by R.J. Brande with
different instructions, all leading to the same battle with Brainiac in the
still upcoming aforementioned mini-series. This they explain to Mon-el and
Superboy, while recruiting them into that storyline.

Until that starts...
