Loathe 'em or hate 'em, they did belong there (and on the dais, rather
than just in the audience... you know, for better aim). They made an
impact that's still being felt.

Mostly 'cos DC had to start the tradition of rebooting the LSH every five
seconds thanks to them (although, honestly, the mess McCraw made after
they left was far, far worse than most of what the TM in TMK produced),
but it =is= still being felt...

...Wish I'd been there. I'd have given them an impact, provided there
was a grocery near the convention center that had some overripe
tomatoes they were willing to part with. Barring that, eggs.

...And then there's Giffen reveling in the fact that he'd killed Val
twice, and forgetting he'd actually done it three times. One of the
things I'd do if I got the Legion writing gig was to write in that if
Val was killed again by some hack writer's sick whims the Multiverse
would implode and the writer would suddenly find his writing skills
were now altered into doing hand jobs for crack in a Calcutta back
alley.

Of course, by the time FC is over, I may be wishing that for Jim
Starlin and Grant Morrison as well...:-P

Really? You really think that? That it's the Bierbaum's fault that
the Legion has been rebooted so many times?

You don't think that maybe... DC deserves credit or blame first for
allowing Superboy to be removed and necessitating some of the changes,
then for agreeing to allow the Zero Hour reboot to occur.

Or Mark Waid who's been involved in every single one of the Legion
reboots from the Mordruverse on forward?

Geeze... you don't have to like the five year gap stories, but it's
just silly to blame what's happened to the Legion on a pair of
scripters that haven't had anything to do with the Legion in 15 years.

Yep I liked the fact that the panel had the sense to pull them up to the dais. The should have been
there whether or not if they were beloved.

I've liked both of Waids full on reboots but hated the fact that they did the first one. I wasn't
too attached to the previous legion before the reboot.

I preferred his second reboot to the first... I was still pretty
bitter about the Zero Hour reboot to look at those stories with any
sort of affection at the time. But again, like those stories or not,
the Zero Hour reboot was a great time for Legion fandom. There were
always lots of creators online with the AOL chats (remember those? Is
AOL even around anymore), and in the compuserve forums, and the reboot
really got people chatting about the Legion again.

Of course they belonged on the panel. They should have been there.
So should Waid and Staton and Manapul, all of whom were at the Con.

I can't for the life of me figure out why Colleen Doran was included,
though.

Off the top of my head, she drew the infamous "Shvaugn Erin is a
transsexual" issue of the TMK Legion, almost undeniably the single
most-hated issue of Legion among all of its iterations. IIRC, she's
also drawn a few other issues of Legion, but in any case, she isn't
held responsible for the controversial issue of the TMK Legion, the
Bierbaums are.

It never works. I spend the day obsessing over why it didn't work
and what I could've done differently. I'm analyzing all my shortcomings
when all I really need to be doing is vowing to never, ever make a plan
ever again, which I'm doing now, having once again been the innocent
victim of my own stupid plans. God, I need some coffee.

...Well, in addition to having drawn the last half of "Valor", she's
also drop-dead gorgeous. In the e-mails I've exchanged with her off
and on over the years, I've usually made it pretty clear I'd be more
than willing to have her kids. I think they've got the male pregnancy
thing figured out now, so I'll be the one craving the chocolate
covered hard boiled egg on a stick at 3am while she's drawing her next
assignment to pay for the kid. She also thinks I'm a harmless lovesick
nut, but everyone(*) knows this and loves me for it.

(*) Except Tom Galloway, and I don't mind if he still thinks I'm a
threat :-)

...Actually, the "Dr. Mayavale" story was the worst in both story and
art. However, that issue was the creative counterpoint to the first
DnA run - the DnA run had great story and totally shitty art from Ol'
Scratchy, while the "Shvaughn/Sean" story was beautiful art by Colleen
and complete and utter shit from the Bierbaums.

...On a side note, what I'd love to see is a convention panel where
Giffen goes off on his snotty self-praise for killing Karate Kid, and
Ralph Macccio - the actor - comes up and goes all kung fu on him just
to teach him a lesson. Barring Ralph's availability, we'd send in the
master. I speak, of course, of Kwai Chang Caine :-)
